A B&B with stories in every corner — and a “lighter” way to travel Hengchun
The “Light” in The Light House came from a wish of Chen Jie’s: that travellers who walked in could slow down, ease up, take their time. Since the first guests in 2017, that easy feeling is what this house has tried to give.
Step inside and you meet the years of vintage pieces Chen Jie has collected — a Texaco pump, carved wooden animals, Venetian oil paintings. Each object carries a story; a group walks in, drifts toward the shelves, and the night can disappear into a single conversation about a single painting.
Five themed rooms sleep fourteen when the house is booked whole. The ground floor carries the day: a living room for tea and slow afternoons, an open kitchen for a real cooked meal, a long dining table wide enough for the whole family, a games room with a life-sized pink bear, an electric mahjong table, and a karaoke set. Step outside and the BBQ pit awaits — made for summer evenings.
Kids and grandparents both have their place — the games room’s life-sized pink bear, electric mahjong table, and karaoke set catch the laughter of a whole group, while parents and grandparents can settle into the living room with tea, the long dining table, or mahjong, and put their phones down for real. Chen Jie picks the fixtures with one standard in mind — home: safe for kids, comfortable for grandparents, relaxed enough for parents to actually unwind.
The alley itself is quiet — but step out and a three-minute walk drops you into the local dining strip just outside the South Gate, packed with street food and restaurants for everything from dinner to late-night. 7-Eleven, PX Mart, and Hengchun Old Street are five minutes on foot; Kenting’s main drag, Sailfish Rock, and Nanwan beach are a ten- to fifteen-minute drive.
Perfect for family reunions, three-generation trips, company retreats, or a circle of close friends who want a whole house to themselves.

We checked in on 7/17 for two nights. The moment we stepped in, the place felt so warm — the host walked us through the facilities patiently. Two nights of comfortable, simple, clean stay. The owner thoughtfully prepared vegetarian congee for our elders at breakfast — that was really touching. The kids loved the rooftop play room and the inflatable pool — they had a blast. The first-floor living room has a KTV for singing, plus a gas BBQ setup that saves the hassle of charcoal. Three days, our whole family had a great time and stayed very comfortably!

Whole-house booking is fantastic! The host is so friendly! Among the cleanest B&Bs we have ever stayed at — no odours in the rooms, sheets and bedding sparkling clean. We booked the whole house this time — daily-living amenities nearby are excellent. Wooden furniture, clean and tidy rooms. Chen Jie prepared a hearty breakfast first thing in the morning — service is very warm. Chatting with her, we learned the towels are washed by the host herself, because that is the only way to ensure they are truly clean. As someone with dust-mite allergies, I made the right choice. Will visit again next time we are in Kenting.

The host is genuinely warm. Rooms are clean, the beds and pillows are great for sleeping (so important!), the double bed is wide enough that two people do not disturb each other, and the shower water pressure is just right. The B&B is close to the night market — easy to find food. Tucked into a quiet lane, peaceful at midnight. Highly recommend!
